Ex-Xaverians bring cheer to acid attack victim Hui Linn
GEORGE TOWN: Acid attack survivor Tan Hui Linn received a pleasant surprise when St Xavier’s Institution Form Five Class of 1978 raised RM9,050 for her.
A class representative, who wished to be known only as Wong, said many of the “old boys” donated generously when the hat was passed around during their class reunion last month.
“We read about her predicament and carried out the fund raising. Life is about contribution,” he said after handing over the cheque to Hui Linn at her uncle’s flat in Bandar Baru Air Itam yesterday.
Wong was accompanied by another classmate, Tan Lye Heng, both 50.

Hui Linn, 19, said she was touched by the kind gesture and would keep the money for future use.
Part of Hui Linn’s face, body and limbs were scarred after her father Lim Teik Swee splashed acid on her mother and her while they were sleeping at their home,
Her mother, Chong Swee Lin, 50, died while she was blinded in the right eye. Her other eye has limited vision. Yet, she has managed to score 9As and 1B in last year’s SPM examination.
Her 54-year-old father is being detained at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertua Negri after a court ruled that he was of unsound mind during the time of the incident.
